Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area is a fun (and free!) place to spend a few hours taking in the scenery, enjoying a short hike, or to sit by the river for a picnic.
The you can get to the park by turning into the Belle Rive Subdivision on Granny White Pike. Stay on Belle Rive road until you see the signs for the park directing you to Deerwood Lane.
Some interesting facts about the park:
- The park offers 27 acres to explore, with 1/2 mile bordering the Little Harpeth River
- The park was offically open in 1992, after being converted from a wastewater treatment facility in the late 1980s
- There is a Tree Identification Guide available in the parking lot of the park - to take with you through the trail
- It was certified as an arboretum in 2002
- There are 2 acres of man-made lakes
In 2001 a small amphitheater and outdoor classroom were built, so this is also an ideal destination for nature groups or schools. For reservation information, contact the parks office at 615-371-2208.

We visited Deerwood for the first time today. Thanks Fun Times Guide Brentwood!
Even though the day was gray and windy, we had a nice walk along the river. There are tons of cedar trees, so the wooded areas are still pretty. The city has carpeted the river walk with chipped-up Christmas trees. The scent? Heavenly!
I thought the picnic area was very attractive. Coupled with the amphitheatre, it might even make a good informal wedding spot.
