nashville-zoo-playground.jpg As any kid can tell you, the Nashville Zoo’s Jungle Gym might be the coolest playground in the world.

Just imagine how tall this log play structure appears to a child!

The Jungle Gym is so sprawling, I couldn’t fit its many angles into one shot.

I wish I had taken enough photos to show you all its serpentine twists and turns.

Why So Special?

Here are a few of the Nashville Zoo playground’s finest features:

  • A huge net for climbing from bridge to tower
  • Shady hidden nooks for hide-and-go-seek
  • Sand
  • The snake tunnel
  • Swings, including baby and handicap-friendly models
  • A shaded, cushioned “tiny tot” pavilion

If magic is in the scenery, the Nashville Zoo‘s primitive wooden play tower is straight from the set of Pirates of the Caribbean!

Tall bamboo stands circle the playground.

Listen to the water rush through the macaw’s waterfall as gibbons hoot in the background.

Why, if it weren’t for necessities like diaper changes, you could almost imagine yourself on a tropical vacation! (Almost.)

The Nashville Zoo may feel worlds away, but it’s only a short drive from Brentwood —  just north of Harding Road and Nolensville Pike. Here’s a map and directions to the Nashville Zoo.

Let’s not forget the Zoo’s main attraction: the animals!

Moms with a Nashville Zoo membership visit just as often for its playground as they do for the elephants. It’s a great place to meet other moms while your kids swing from the trees (or the climbing net.)

Brentwood Mom Tip: Take lots of bottled waters and sunscreen for the kids! Publix sponsors a cooling mist tent just behind the playground’s concession area.
