The Best Granite Countertop Cleaners
Granite countertops are quickly becoming the standard in Brentwood Tennessee homes.
We've loved the granite counters that the previous owners installed. After a year of hard use though, they no longer feel as smooth as they first did.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one in Brentwood with this problem! So I set out to investigate the best granite cleaning products...
Granite is extremely hard, but it's still porous.
If you've used Windex as a default granite cleaning product, you may need to re-seal the countertops earlier than the once-a-year recommendation.

Special care is needed when cleaning your granite countertops:
- Wipe spills immediately. Grease can absorb into granite.
- Avoid abrasive granite cleaners (even "soft scrub" style pastes).
- Don't use acidic cleaners like vinegar or citrus-based formulas.
I have been pleased with Method brand's The Daily Granite, which you can pick up at Target ($5.99).
Method granite cleaner has a fresh smell that matches its all-natural marketing. Method left my granite countertops smooth and streak-free. But it's expensive. With the messes we make, we could easily spray through a bottle every 2 weeks.
My neighbor uses a convenient product called MB-5 Granite Cleaner wipes. She thinks the convenience is worth the extra cost. She continues to buy her granite cleaner from the shop which installed the countertops.
How to make your own granite cleaner
I experimented with some homemade granite cleaning recipes I found online. My favorite version uses drugstore-variety rubbing alcohol as a base. I mix 5-6 drops of Dawn detergent with 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol in a recycled spray bottle. It works!
The best granite cleaning cloths are definitely microfiber. The ultra-smooth nap makes the granite streak-free.
You can pick up a large pack of microfiber cloths at Sam's Club or Costco.

Hello, my family and I moved into the house we built about a year ago and I can already see the difference in the Granite from when we bought it to now. We used this Weiman's product, which was amazing. When we ran out, we used this other product which left a greasy residue. So we switched to Swiffer Dust and Shine, which on the bottle, says works for granite. But the more we use it, the more dull the countertops look. What can we do to make them shine again?
