When I saw the empty produce stand atop the side of Franklin Road, I thought that Brentwood Produce must have gone out of business.
But I was wrong! You can find this family-owned produce stand in the Shell gas station parking lot instead.
Here are a few of the beautiful fruits, vegetables, and plants you can buy at the Brentwood Produce Stand.
Today I spotted Tennessee's state wildflower in a thicket of blackberry brambles. This delicate passionflower is as beautiful as anything I've seen at Home Depot.
My mind wandered to the dozens of Bradford pear tree problems in Brentwood. I have to admit, I'm not so thrilled about pest-prevention and pruning Bradford pears.
If I had my way, I'd dig up all the Bradford pear trees and replace them with equally attractive Tennessee redbuds and dogwoods.
I refused to plant my impatiens till "Dogwood Winter" had come and gone. (That's the Southern term for the cold snap that always seems to follow our first spring warm spell.) Now all the bedding plants for sale look frostbitten!
When is the right time to plant annuals in Tennessee? And where can I buy fresh plants without driving all over Nashville?
I was so surprised when a Nashville florist left this rose bouquet on my doorstep!
I'm a flower snob. I usually make my own bouquets from the garden or wholesale flower shops in the Nashville area.
If you have to send flowers to Brentwood, TN, I recommend calling a local florist directly. You'll have more reassurance of overall style and quality.
You can also give specific instructions, like "lose the FTD mug, the glitter-sprayed carnations and please, oh, please--no leather leaf fern!"
Before the start of this summer, I posted my concerns after our Bradford Pear trees were "trimmed".
Now that the summer is just about over, I have to admit I was way wrong.
This was the best thing we've done with the yard so far...
When I first saw my Bradford Pear trees in full bloom, I was in love.
Then the wind blew, and one of of the 4 little buggers fell in our neighbor's yard. The 3 remaining trees were overgrown, but I really didn't want to pull them out and start over.
Once the beautiful bloom of my Bradford Pear trees faded this past April, I realized how badly they needed to be trimmed. I called a landscaping company to do it, and they left me in shock...
Warmer weather is finally here so it's time to start thinking about our gardening plans for the coming season. I usually get over-excited and put some flowers in on the first warm day... only to find that they weren't quite ready for the cold overnight tempuratures. I'm already seeing some flowers for sale around here, but for most varieties it's still too early.
