What You Need To Know About Living In Brentwood

the-truth-about-brentwood-tn-schools-ravenwood-and-brentwood-high-scool.jpgI had a fun conversation this week with a family about to move here.

They wanted to know, "What is it really like to live in Brentwood -- the good and  the bad?"

After referring them to this website (naturally!), we talked about  the pro's and con's of living in one of Nashville's best suburbs.

#1 Brentwood has the shortest commute into Nashville from all of Williamson County

Good:  you can be downtown in 15 minutes.

Bad:  Cool Springs shopping & restaurants are popping up to the south of Brentwood.  In fact, our favorite restaurants are either in Franklin or Nashville.

#2:  Brentwood schools

Good:  Brentwood's schools are considered far better than Metro Nashville's, and even superior to the rest of Williamson Co. because of  high housing prices.  There is racial diversity, but little socioeconomic diversity.

Bad:  You may have a Brentwood address, but actually live in Davidson County.

Also, school zoning is only guaranteed for one year, so houses on the Nolensville side may no longer be zoned for Ravenwood schools.

#3:  Quality of life

Good:  Brentwood is full of nice people, with active social centers like the fabulous Brentwood Library, thriving church congregations, and nonstop sports (a la Crockett Park.)

Bad:  Singles may find themselves driving to downtown Nashville for nightlife and concerts.

Likewise, if you're not religious, you may get tired of people asking "if you've found a church home yet."

#4:  Getting around Brentwood

Good:  I-65 gives great interstate access in and out of Brentwood, with newly paved, wide driving.  You can also avoid the interstate entirely by taking Franklin Rd. from Nashville all the way to Franklin.

Bad:  Rush hour slowdowns are common on streets leading to I-65 exits, namely Old Hickory Blvd (leaving Maryland Farms office park) and Concord Rd. (leaving the huge numbers of subdivisions).

I hope these observations about living in Brentwood, TN are helpful as you plan your move!  Overall, we LOVE living in this FUN community!
