Our friends recommended Vittles Restaurant as the best meat-and-three in Brentwood, if not Nashville. We enjoyed a late Saturday brunch there this weekend.
As you can see, we didn't leave hungry.
Vittles is located in Maryland Farms, Brentwood, between Brentwood Grille and O'Charley's. Our server says it is packed for weekday lunch. Vittles even offers take-out service, which would be a great option for the business traveler staying in a Brentwood hotel.
We had no problem parking on a Saturday morning. I wish I had noticed the patio tables earlier, or we might have enjoyed our breakfast outside.
I was surprised by Vittles' pleasant, sunny interior. I grew up eating at the old-fashioned diners like the Kountry Kitchen, where the vinyl tablecloths and plastic menus are as greasy as the food! In contrast, Vittles reminded me of a slightly upscale Shoney's or even a Cracker Barrel without the kitsch.
What About The Food?
Though we didn't sample the lunchtime meats and vegetables, we enjoyed the traditional Southern breakfast at Vittles. My husband ordered Vittles' "Big Breakfast": two eggs, hash browns, sausage, biscuit AND a stack of pancakes ($7.99).
The best deal on the breakfast menu was the omelet plate. For $4.99, you get a generous omelet stuffed with your choice of filling, hash browns, and a biscuit. My veggie omelet was full of fresh diced tomato and mushrooms.
As you can see, it came with a hearty layer of cheese on top. If I were ordering it again, I'd ask for a lighter omelet without cheese.
Vittles' Service
Our server was friendly and watchful, consistently refilling the coffee cups. The meal preparation took a little longer than we expected, but she brought us a plate of biscuits and jam while we waited. We'll have to sample the lunch menu before we can tell you about Vittles' meat and three choices. Lunch prices range from about $6 to $14 for special entrees of the day.
