Trimming Bradford Pear Trees Part 2...They Were Right!

Before the start of this summer, I posted my concerns after our Bradford Pear trees were "trimmed".

Now that the summer is just about over, I have to admit I was way wrong.

This was the best thing we've done with the yard so far...

Not only are they already full of new growth, but more importantly, I'm not worrying every time a storm goes through the area.

I know these trees are not going to fall on our cars, or on our neighbor's house.

So, the moral of this story is: Don't Panic. I guess these tree-trimming guys know what they're doing!

I have 2 Bradford Pears that have not bloomed and I have had them for several years. I am also interested in why they do not bloom.

Terry

We planted a dozen Bradford Pear trees about six or seven years ago. While other Bradford Pears in our area are full of bloom in April our trees go straight to green leaves with very few blooms. I keep thinking maybe next year but so far very few blooms have appeared. What can we do to correct this situation?

Juanita

We planted Bradford Pears down our driveway and they have never bloomed.. they go straight to leaves..what is the problem?

Can you tell me how to trim a bredford pear tree so that it won't get broke in a wind storm?

Helen

I have the same problem as Pam. My Bradford Pear trees do not bloom, just go straight to leaves. My county extension agent could not give me a reason for this. I would appreciate any help I can get.

Tommy

I have three Bradford Pear trees in my yard. All three bloomed, and two of them have leaves. The biggest one hasn't got its leaves yet. The flowers have turned brownish, and there are still buds on the tree, just no leaves. Is this tree just in shock are am I losing this once beautiful tree?

PAM

I BOUGHT A FLOWERING PEAR TREE LAST SUMMER AND IT DIDN'T BLOOM AND I NOTICE THIS YEAR EVERYONE ELSES HAS BLOOMED AND MY HASN'T. IT IS COVERED WITH GREEN LEAVES. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY TREE.

My Husband and i planted 3 bradford pear tree's last year but they were to young to prune so i waited till this year but, could you please tell me when the best time to prune is ? i live in SC and the temp is different than Fl.
Thanks

patty

NES is planning to "trim" my bradford pear using the SIDE pruning method to avoid touching the above ground power lines. I feel this will weaken the weak tree and also affect the appearance in an unsightly way. What can I do and what is the best method to deal with this? It will continue to grow on the other side and I do not want to end up paying for a fallen tree.

Abby

David,
I remember that they charged me $200/per tree (I had three to do), but I don't have the number written down. This included trimming and brush removal. I didn't have much time and needed it done right away, so you may be able to find a better price.

They had an ad in the Brentwood Life newspaper, but I don't have one here right now. The ad said something like "Save Your Bradford Pear Trees". Next time I get one, I'll post the number.

David

can you give me an idea what they charged to trim the trees? and do you have their number?

Ed - I'm glad that my comments made you feel better. I know what you mean about being concerned, I was really worried when I saw them after the trimming. I'm sure yours will come back as well.

Ed

I just did the same thing to two of my bradford pear trees after a third one gave up and fell over. After trimming them I became very concerned because they looked terrible. Your comments made me feel better and now I know they will grow back beautiful again.
